This year, the Religious Education families are scheduled to host Soup Night on Wednesday, March 14.

We need your help to host Soup Night.  Please consider volunteering to make soup, set up, serve, and/or clean up.

We need about 18-20 people to make soup, and another 18-20 to serve the soup (one per pot of soup). We will also need people to help with setup (people to cut bread, put out butter; put out tablecloths on tables, stay in kitchen to receive soup pots and heat up soup, set out bowls and spoons, fill water pitchers and put them on tables, etc.)

Lastly, we will need people to help with cleanup (Clear garbage from tables, put away tables and chairs, etc.)

Let's get together, host and share a meal together.

TECHNOLOGY FAST DURING LENT
Take a break from technology from February 14 – March 29

During Lent, consider participating in a Technology Fast (February 14 – March 29). Take a break from technology.

You don’t have to completely stop using your phone or computer, but consider ways you can reduce your use and/or cultivate a positive technology habit. For example, you could choose to have technology-free meals with your family, say a prayer in the morning before picking up your phone to check emails and social media, or use your device to watch a video from Bishop Barron or Fr. Mike Schmitz.

CHRISTMAS MASS OBLIGATIONS - GUIDANCE FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE OF SAN FRANCISCO
December 24, 2017 - December 26, 2017

With Christmas Day on a Monday this year, many people want their Mass obligations clarified. The short answer is: Yes, there is a Sunday obligation and a separate Holy Day obligation. The following information has been supplied to all priests of the Archdiocese.

On Sunday, December 24, which is the Fourth Sunday of Advent, Masses after 4:00 pm should be the Vigil Mass for the Nativity of the Lord and not the Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Advent.  If your parish has a regularly scheduled Sunday evening Mass, the Vigil Mass for the Nativity is to be used.

Obligation to Attend Mass: This year we have the unusual occurrence of the obligation to attend Mass on two consecutive days. People ask: ‘Can I satisfy two obligations with one Mass?’  The U.S. Catholic Bishops have clarified that "When consecutive obligations occur on Saturday-Sunday or Sunday-Monday, the faithful must attend Mass twice to fulfill two separate obligations."

Therefore, the people are obliged to attend one Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Advent (from Saturday evening 12.23 up to 4:00 pm on Sunday 12.24); and one Mass for the celebration of the Nativity of the Lord (from 4:00 pm on Sunday 12.24 through all Masses on Monday 12.25).

SCHEDULE DECEMBER 23 - 25 MASSES

Masses for the the 4th Sunday of Advent will be
  • Saturday, December 23 @ 5:00pm
  • Sunday, December 24 @ 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 11:30 AM  (no 5:30pm mass)

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses are listed below

Please fill out the bottom portion of the flyer found HERE and submit it to the Parish office, Attention: Karen Elmore, or email the following information to kelmore@stgregs-sanmateo.org, by Monday, December 18th.

ADVENT GIVING TREE

As you are preparing for your own family holidays, you are invited to experience the spirit of the Advent Season by reaching out to those in need.  Every year St. Gregory parishioners have been generous in helping out our less fortunate brothers and sisters.  Please notice the Advent Giving Trees in the church vestibule, with the tags.  We hope that you will choose a tag and bring your UNWRAPPED gift or gift cards with you to Mass on the Second Sunday of Advent, December 9-10th and place them in the bin by the statue of St. Joseph or Mary.  If you are unable to attend mass that day, you can bring your gift to the Parish Office no later than Monday, December 11th.  St. Francis Center and The Catholic Worker House will benefit from your generosity.
